I'm the son of procrastinators. On a 4th of July a quarter century ago, my dad declared, "I'll have my '61 Pontiac ready for next year's parade!" Predictably, it's still on blocks in the garage. While helping my parents clean out a closet recently, my 30-something sister found her damaged baby clothes buried on Mom's mending pile. As a teen, my family spent six years finishing our walkout basement; though a snail's pace, it shames the progress in my own home.
Our old three-story farmhouse screamed "Ugly!" but the price was right. Beyond the brown shag carpet, garish color schemes, and overgrown yard, my wife and I envisioned a beautiful home in which to raise our family and show hospitality. When we signed the papers in 2005, we got not only the house of our dreams, but the stuff of nightmares. Being of modest means, we couldn't hire out the work; years later, I have launched several projects, yet have completed few.
Now, my long-suffering wife has challenged me to finish these projects in a year. Will blogging and the moral support of fellow procrastinators be sufficient encouragement to complete the tasks? Or will I submit to public humiliation (complete with photos)?
How have you procrastinated? Will you join me, on a project of your own, for accountability, encouragement, and maybe even a little embarrassment?
